Do you know how many CCE Core Values are there?

And if you do know them, what do these Core Values mean to you?
Do you see any of your friends or anyone displaying any of the six (6) core values?

Step 1:
Write down your opinion in the comment section.

Step 2:
Write down your Name and your Form Class.

Step 3:
Submit!

That's easy, right? For those students who might need some examples, here's a few:

"When we see any teachers in the school, we must not pretend that we did not see them and just pass them by. Instead, we must greet them. This is to show our respect towards our teachers. This is not only because teachers are older than us and are our elders, but more so because teachers have taught us well and this is one small way to show our appreciation towards them." - Joe Lim (6K)*

"I have seen one of my classmates return a $5 note that she has found in the canteen to the General Office. I am very impressed by her integrity. Although she could have just pocketed it because nobody else would know it, she did the right thing by returning the money. I will want to be like her the next time should I find money on the ground." - Nur Salinah (5H)*

"Just like what is mentioned in Di Zi Gui (弟子规), we have to show care to our elders. If not, it will break their heart and it will disgrace them too." - Brad Tan (4J)*

And one more tip to help you out:

The CCE syllabus focuses on six (6) core values, namely

  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Integrity
  • Care
  • Resilience
  • Harmony
which form the foundation upon which good character is built. These values complement and reinforce Our Shared Values, the Singapore Family Values, the  Singapore 21 Vision and the  National Education messages.

abstract from Civics and Moral Education (Primary) Syllabus, 2007

So, there you have it and don't wait anymore to write down your opinion because the Closing Date for this "CCE/VIA In My Own Words" Online Contest will be on Term 2 Week 3, 13th April 2014 (Sunday)!

We should not fight for a small matter and make conflicts out of it. They should discuss and forgive each other. If both are still disagreeable, ask a trustable adult. We need peace and harmony.

  10. If a person has the ability to recover readily from illness, depression or adversity, the person has great resilience. To me, Resilience is an underestimated aspect of the process. This resilience thing reminded me of a famous quote by Alicia F. Lieberman:"Toddlers who don't learn gradually about disappointment lose their resilience through lack of practice in give-and-take with other people's needs. They can become self-centered, demanding, and difficult to like or to be with." Those that are resilience are our benefactors, just like our dearest teachers!

Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skill to do difficult things easily. Here is a quote for you “Victory belongs to the most persevering.” Do not escape or avoid your problems, do not blame yourself, others, chances, other things, forces and power. 24. 60 words or less for each value:

    -Respect:
When our teachers walk pass us, we should always greet them. Even when it is the teacher you loathe or like. It doesn't matter, we should greet the grumpy old man next door when we see him, or greet the petty auntie that stays a few doors away. Respect is important as it makes others happy.

    -Responsibility:
It is our responsibility to hand up our work on time. When we have a role or a part to play, we should be responsible for it. When we are not responsible, people will start to distrust and dislike us. If we have a pet, it is our responsibility to take good care of it.

    -Integrity:
Integrity is very important in the world, because if no integrity is shown, everybody would distrust everybody. We should not lie that we 'forgot' to bring our homework when we forgot to do it to the teacher. Also, anything we find that is not ours must be returned to the rightful owner.

    -Care:
We should care for our family & friends & our community. Also, we should help those that caused us trouble when they have a problem, and not stand there laughing our heads off. Animals should not be abused, neglected or thrown out on the streets.

    -Resilience:
When we score low marks in our tests, exams our surprise quizzes, we should not cry over spilt milk and we should pick ourselves up and try to improve instead. Even though you don't like the subject, try to understand the question and learn strategies.

    -Harmony:
We should maintain racial harmony in Singapore. We should respect and accept religions, cultures and the life of different races. Riots happen because most likely, a person from a racial group has insulted another racial group. Therefore, harmony is important as it makes life better.

  27. Integrity is to tell the truth when you did some thing wrong. For example, when you did not bring your homework, tell the the truth that you did not bring your homework.

Respect means to greet your elders whenever you see them. For example, When you wake up in the morning, greet you parents and grandparents a good morning.

Responsibility means to pick up liability when you did something wrong. Like when you broke an antique vase at home, you must be honest and don't blame others.

Care means to care for others when they have injure themselves. When you see a Primary 1 student fall down, go up to him or her and help them up. If they bleed, bring them to General Office and help them bandage up their wounds.

Resilience means to not to cry over spilt milk when we get low scores for tests and exams. This shows that we have not work hard for the past year and we must work hard for the next year.

Harmony is to have peace all the times and not having arguments and riots. If we have arguments all the times we will not have friends.

  29. There are 6 CCE core values , they are:-
    -Respect
    -Responsibility
    -Integrity
    -Care/Compassion
    -Resilience
    -Harmony

    What do they mean?
    -Respect
It means when someone is talking or doing something Do Not Interrupt. As you know some parents might tolerate their kids of interrupting when they are speaking, but we should not do so. As kids we should wait for them to talk finish then speak to them.

    -Responsibility
Responsibility means to carried out your assigned roles well. Never give up on your role as people might think u are not a good role model anymore.

    -Integrity
Integrity is to be honest .Example: A wallet was found on a floor in school, Tom picked it up and opened it. He found $50 inside it and a card with the owners name.
If u were Tom what would you do to that wallet. Would you keep it or rather pass it to the owner?
I hoped u chose to return the wallet back as the owner could be desperately walking around the school trying to find his/her missing wallet.

    -Care/Compassion
Care/Compassion means to help others when they are in desperate need of help .You should ask them what is wrong then try to help them by giving them hope or by trying to help them solve their problems.

    -Resilience
Resilience means to strive on and never give up.

    -Harmony
Harmony means to get along with each other. That is why Singapore celebrates Racial Harmony every year so that all cultures:- the Hindus, the Malays, the Chinese, and others.

Respect to me means to listen to what others say before giving your suggestion or talk.

Responsibility means to me that anyone who has assigned jobs to do should carry them out with full responsibility, when they did wrong they should never point fingers if they are a good role model.

Integrity means to me that we should be honest and own up for the wrong doings.

Care/Compassion means to me that we should help each other out when we need help.

Resilience means never give up and strive on when we face problems.

Harmony means to me that we should get along with different races.

    * The names of my friend will not be said
    Respect
One of my friend showed respect when she listened to one of our classmate presenting his idea then she gave her opinions.

    Responsibility
One of my friends volunteered to lead our group and when things got wrong she told the teacher the truth.

    Integrity
    -NIL-

    Care/Compassion
One of my friend cheered me up when I was sad.

    Resilience
One of my friends did not gave up when he could not solve the Sudoku puzzle.

    Harmony

  32. If someone is able to be friends with a person for prolonged periods of time, why can’t all of us do the same? In Endeavour, I see lots of people forming their own little groups, and never expanding it. They usually form these groups because they all are against something. But everyone in our school is in one huge group – Endeavour. All of us make the school. We cannot bully each other like making racist or sexist comments, gossiping or making fun of each other that make our ties lessen its strength every single day. All of us should be friends, regardless of race, language or religion. We are all living in the same country, Singapore. We are all in the same school, Endeavour. We should live together harmoniously, as if all of us are best friends. If someone does not regard you as a friend, apologise. We should all live together in harmony.

  36. 1)Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone. If you respect your teacher, you admire her and treat her well.

2)Responsibility is something you're required to do as an upstanding member of a community. If you're in a band, it's your responsibility to learn the songs and show up to practice on time

3)Integrity is a personal quality of fairness that we all aspire to.

4)Care is to feel concern, and care is attention given, tending, or upkeep. If you care about how your garden grows, you will take care to water it often, remove weeds, and talk to your plants about the weather.

5)Resilience is one's ability to bounce back, is not just admirable, but foolhardy.

6)Harmony is the sound of things that go together well — people singing in harmony are in tune with each other. Best friends should be in harmony most of the time if they want to stay best friends.

  39. CARE.Whether it is helping to do the house chores or helping a blind man cross the road,a little kindness goes a long way.Whenever a friend or an elderly person falls down,we can show our care by helping them up instead of laughing at them or calling them names as doing so may ridicule or embarrass them.Showing concern is another way of caring. You can show concern by donating to charity, visiting the Old Folks' home or volunteering .We must not only show care for our family,we must also be kind and compassionate to our friends, pets and the community. This way,we will have a more friendly and open enviroment to everyone and the public.

  40. Integrity- Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking or knowing whether you did it. Everything we do we must think what others might feel about our actions. For example: You found a wallet lying on the pavement on you way back home from school. You opened it and found $100 in it and an identity card. You can either keep it and use the money to buy things that u want or return it to the owner. If you choose to keep the wallet and the money, have you thought how the owner of the wallet might feel? Or how you would feel if you lost $100? Anxious, sad, worried? But if you return it to the owner, he/she might feel relieved being able to find their money back. Even if no one knows you have done a good deed (only the person you helped knows of cause) u made someone happy.

Harmony- Harmony is the feeling of happiness, joy, peace. Examples of harmony: When a team work together, when people cooperate with each other. Harmony is created when we listen to each other and respect them. Harmony makes the world colorful, vibrant. If there is no Harmony in the world, the world would be colorless and there would be lots of roits, fights, arguments. Harmony is important, really important.

Care- There are many types of "care". One of them is doing things seriously and carefully in order to do something right. To do something with care , we have to be caution, alert, attentive. We need care in almost everything we do everyday. In other words, we have to be careful in everything we do. The other type of "care" is the one in families and between friends. Sometimes, our moms scold us. When they do, some of us think they do not care about us, care about our feelings. But deep inside them, they still care for us. People scold, get worried, anxious for others, it is because they care for them.

Respect- Respect is treating others the way you want them to treat u, showing kindness and consideration towards people and accepting others for who they are. If you want others to respect you, you have to respect others. Respect is like a two way street /road. Drive a car in one direction, it U-turns to the other direction and then back to the same direction again. It is like a cycle that repeats itself over and over again. And this cycle is like respect. Respect others and they respect you back then you respect them back again.

Responsibility- Responsibility means taking care of your own duties. When you are responsible for your duties, you must have leadership. When anything goes wrong or happens to your duties. People might blame you for what has happened, Sometimes you might even get punished. Even if you make excuses, you are still responsible for what you have done. Everyone have to be responsible for our own actions.

Resilience-Resilience is overcoming difficulties, fears or stress. To gain resilience is to believe in yourself. When you fail, don't let it stop you from persevering, learn from the mistakes made and continue to overcome your difficulties. Don't stop persevering, if you stop, you will never overcome your difficulties. If you stop persevering, these difficulties will acuminate and turn into problems. And these problems will be more difficult to overcome. So don't give up and keep trying!

Here are some examples of Resilience...... keep trying in facing challenges to reach my goals. Trying other possible ways to get around the problem but no matter how it seems it will get better.if we strive to work harder.

  56. I had already been taught similar values by my parents & grandparents since young so they're not new to me. These are the values that had been taught to me:

    RESPECT
    - Always respect others first if you want them to respect you and always treat things with respect, be it animals, people or the things around you, regardless of race, age, language or status.

    RESPONSIBILITY
    - Be responsible for your actions & words because irresponsible words can hurt others while irresponsible actions can cause irreversible damage & ultimately hurting yourself.

    INTEGRITY
    - Do not take things which do not belong to you, that is, do not steal or rob and do not lie as lying can hurt yourself and others and the truth will always be out eventually. On numerous occasions, I had returned money or items to people who have dropped them unknowingly and they had always been grateful each time, which makes me really happy, knowing that I had performed a good deed.

    CARE
    - Always show care and concern for others, be it your friends, family, animals or even strangers. It will be a much better world if everyone could just show a little more care to others.

    RESILIENCE
    - Do not give up easily, especially in times of great difficultly, be it a overcoming a difficult situation or solving a difficult problem as failure is the mother of all success and determination will always bring you far.

    HARMONY
    - Always maintain a harmonious relationship with people from different walks of life, regardless of their race, language or religion for a peaceful world. As human beings, we are all together as one so we should not be fighting against one and other.

  57. RESPECT

    What is respect?
Respect is showing regard and appreciation for the worth of someone or something.
    It means honor.
it includes respect from self, respect for the rights and dignity of all persons, and respect for the environment that sustains life.

    -Why do we need respect?
We need respect to collaborate and to have a peaceful world

-Respect is how u treat a person
Having respect for someone means you think good things about how a person is or how a person acts. You can have respect for others, and you can have respect for yourself.

Showing respect to someone means you act in a way that shows you care about their feelings and well-being to the person.
Showing respect for others include things like not calling people mean names.Treating people with courtesy, caring enough about yourself that you don't do things you know can hurt you.

  62. There are 6 CCE core values that I have learnt from my chinese teacher, they are:-
    -Respect
    -Responsibility
    -Integrity
    -Care/Compassion
    -Resilience
    -Harmony

Respect: Respect is something you have to do to those who are older than you. Common, adults always tell the younger ones that if you want people to respect you, you have to respect them first .You may greet your parents, principal, teachers or even your friends. But you also cannot forget the cleaners! IF you think they are not important, imaging your school without cleaners, I'm sure you can imagine how dirty it will be! Some more, there are more and more litter bugs all around! So, if you see any cleaners, remember to greet them or even better thank them!

Integrity:Integrity is about being honest. Is CHEATING being honest? Of course NOT. Only those that has not learnt INTEGRITY WILL ASK THIS KIND OF question. When you find a wallet with lots of money, you won’t secretly steal it when no one is watching and say you did not see any wallet. This is a good and common example of not having INTEGRITY. You should take the wallet to the General Office and pass to the people there. This is then showing INTEGRITY.

Compassion/Care: Compassion/Care is being nice/good to anyone near you. (OF NOT BAD GUYS) If you like to gain care from other people, you must first give care to that people.

Resilience: Resilience is never giving up and to strive for your goal.

Harmony: Harmony is about all the races being together. That is the reason why we celebrate Racial Harmony day .It does not mean different races cannot be together.

  63. Respect:
We must show respect to our teachers, parents and to everyone. We can show it by greeting our teachers. If we do not know the teacher, we should just say "Good morning teacher ".

    Responsible:
We must be responsible for everything we do. If our teacher gave us task to complete, we must be responsible and do it.

    Integrity:
During an examination, if I saw my best friend looking at another person's paper, should I tell the teacher? The answer is yes we must, even though that is my best friend.

    Care:
We must show care to everyone. We can show care when our friend is sad or crying.

    Resilience:
Resilience is never give up, go for it!!!

    Harmony:
Harmony is when all the races come together. No matter you are a Chinese, Indian, Malay, or other races, we must always be together.

  64. We must show care and concern to our friends and elders. If we keep bully our friends, then the friendship will not last very long, as this is the lack of care and concern for our friends. If you want others to care for you, you must care for them first.

  65. CCE core values are important. They maintain order and balance. If there is no Care, no one will bother about other people and care only about themselves. If there is no harmony, everyone will hate each other. If there was no integrity, everyone will be lying and no one will know whose things are whose. Basically, NO ONE will want to live in a world without CCE core values.

I feel that the Core Values are important to our daily life because without them all of us will be mean , rude and selfish to each-other . If we do show them all of us will be happy and full of enjoyment as a one big happy city.

My friend , Audrey was very bad in her Mathematics . She was always the one who got the lowest grades in test papers and the slowest in class , but that didn't stop her from working hard and giving her the strength to move on . After all her studying , she finally succeeded and was the top 5 in class . She showed great Resilience .
